CCR Distribution Question Plan

CCR Distribution Question Plan

There are two main ways to distribute a film: the first way is to sell the movie on a platform which can be done by oneself or with a third-party aggregator and the second is to promote the film at a film festival. The best way to distribute a film is through the platform.

There are five types of video-on-demand (VOD) platforms: free video-on-demand, ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD), subscription video-on-demand (SVOD), transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) and cable video-on-demand. The one most suited for the movie would be free video-on-demand as this platform is free and reaches numerous audience- an example is youtube or Vimeo. Another suitable platform is TVOD as the audience can access the movie after paying for it. SVOD platform tends to pick indie films with festival wins- an example is Netflix; Cable video-on-demand tends to films produced by known directors- example of this is showtime, HBO and STARZ.
Self-distributing the film requires a suitable film format. The most preferred resolution for cinema screening is 1920 x 1080 (1080p). In addition, files submitted as AVC/H.264 in .mp4, .m2t and .ts format are accepted. A format good for streaming online is H.264 it contains high-quality audio and video. mp4 is the digital file at an international standard. Pro-Res 422 .mov format is both good online and accepted in cinemas.

To reach a wider range of audiences have subtitles in different languages- use Rev to do this- or include closed captions which include atmospherics such as on-screen sounds important in understanding the narrative. It makes the movie more shareable

It is important to gain funding for the film distribution campaign this can be raised using crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo. Promote the film by posting trailers, clip scenes and behind the scenes clips online.
